Welcome to 3rd Grade, Ms. Chierici, Room 21 Kawana Academy of Arts and Sciences
Third Grade is great grade for both teachers and students. The kids are not babies anymore, they can think and reason logically, they are fun and funny, they are eager to learn and everything amazes them. Most importantly, they still think their teachers are cool!
Families and teachers must work together to help children master grade-level material and be successful in school. The most important skill for 3rd graders to master is reading. The best way for you to help your child succeed is to make sure they read every day - 7 days a week. Children who are reading below grade level by the end of third grade are far more likely to drop out of school.
How do you choose an appropriate book? A rule of thumb: Listen to your child read the first page of the book - he/she should be able to read most of it easily. If they struggle on 5 or more words in the first 35 to 50 words (not including character's names,) the book is too hard and won't help them read better. When they can read 90% of the words fairly easily, it's a good book fchoice
